  • Fine silver is 99,9% pure silver

Pure silver is a very soft material

Therefore, Pretiosa uses fine silver for the smaller parts of her jewelry, like bezels and other little details

Sterling silver is 92,5% pure silver

This is an alloy made when (usually) copper, the remaining 7.5%, is combined with fine silver

This is a less soft and more durable material

    TURQUOISE
Turquoise is possibly the oldest stone in human history, serving as a talisman for kings, shamans and warriors. Wearing a turquoise is said to bring strength and happiness as well as provide protection against injury. It is a symbol of friendship, provides assistance and strength to travelers, and bringing peace to the home

Turquoise was first brought to Europe from Turkey - hence the name.

Back then it was extracted from the mines of the historical province of Khorasan, Persia

This stone was one of the first to be mined ever, and most of these mines have shut down long ago - yet a few are still operating today.

These are small-scale businesses, usually seasonal due to limited deposits and remote locations

Most are operated "by hand" with little or no machinery involved.

Therefore turquoise, and especially that of a high degree, is considered a valuable stone

In many cultures, the turquoise was considered a sacred stone - an amulet for good fortune. The oldest evidence of this was found in ancient Egypt, where graves were discovered decorated with turquoise - about 3000 years before our common era.

It was first used by Turkish soldiers, both for protecting the body, head and armor.

In ancient Persia, the sky blue turquoise was carried around the neck or wrist as a protection against unnatural death. If the stone changed color, it meant that the wearer had reason to fear the day of judgement.

It was said that the turquoise changed according to the physical condition of the person wearing it. It faded if the owner was sick or sad, lost all color if the person died and would gradually get it back with a new owner.

Turquoise is considered to be the lucky stone for those born in December (birthstone)
